The Girl in the Mist by Kristen Ashley releasing January 4, 2022

This book wasn’t good, it wasn’t great, it wasn’t amazing, IT WAS PHENOMENAL!!!!! I was glued to the pages, the story gripped me and didn’t let go, hours passed while I was reading but I had no concept of time. It was that good and I felt like I was discovering a new authour all over again. It has all the things I love about a Kirsten Ashley book, but the voice is different and fits the story, which, by the way, was super duper amazing.

The main characters, they had a familiar feeling to them, but the town and the townsfolk, that was a completely different situation. Darker, edgier, deeper, and so many secrets. People are nice but they have another side, not necessarily mean, but definitely more than meets the eye. There are underlying tones of assumptions and appearances that get catapulted out into the atmosphere. Bad things happen, there isn’t any sugar-coating it, and the good guys don’t always arrive in time. People you love betray you, and life goes on, but in a different way. Revenge happens and there are unforeseen casualties when it does. Relationships can’t always be mended, pain runs deep and scars, and there are consequences to actions.

This all binds together such an enthralling story, and in the centre of that storm, two people are figuring out how they fit together and can be together. Caught in the maelstrom ares a family, already weathering storms of their own, trying to stay sane and together. A woman hiding from her own personal evil enters with no idea she is being swept up into another. A father trying to protect his family while doing what he does best. An instant attraction, put on hold until things settle down. Only, things never do, they only escalate. Every time you think, okay now, another thing happens, and even when it seems all settled, it really, really, isn’t. Cat and mouse, hunter and prey, a chess game that never ends, this story had it all, and then, just a but more, and it was phenomenal <3
